Mackall Studio was founded by Melina Mackall in 1999 and is proud to share space with Function First Physical Therapy, owned by Melina’s husband, Joe Spallone. Melina, Joe, their Therapists and instructors are all highly motivated to help you improve your health and reach your goals.
MELINA MACKALL, LMT, NCTMB, owner of Mackall Studio
Melina has had a lifelong passion for movement. As a professional dancer and choreographer, Melina began studying Pilates in 1997. In addition to Pilates, Melina holds a BA in dance from Bard College, is certified in the GYROTONIC Expansion System®, holds a National Certificate in Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork and is a licensed Massage Therapist. In her pursuit of anatomical knowledge and increasind skills as a manual therapist, Melina has studied gait training, osteoporosis, myofascial release, structural integration, craniosacral therapy, trigger point therapy, neuromuscular therapy and, most recently, a course in treating the multisport athlete. She also holds a certificate in prenatal massage and works closely with women during and after pregnancy. Currently, Melina is training for and competing in Sprint and Olympic distance Triathlons as well as open water swimming events with NYC Swim. She is also the proud mother of two very active young boys. Melina has worked with a very broad range of clients including professional dancers and athletes, women through pregnancy and people recovering from numerous chronic and acute injuries. Melina will provide you with the highest quality of individualized care in order to help you achieve optimal fitness and health.
JOSEPH D. SPALLONE, PT, ATC, CFMT, clinical advisor to Mackall Studio
Joe is the founder and owner of Function First Physical Therapy and clinical advisor for Mackall Studio. He graduated from the University of Connecticut with a BA in athletic training. Upon returning to the university for his BS in physical therapy, he was the athletic trainer for the women’s basketball team. Upon graduation, he relocated to New York City and worked for three years at New York Hospital, rotating to various services. He then left to focus on outpatient orthopedics, working for seven years in physical therapy at private practices throughout the city. During this time he committed to enhancing his expertise in orthopedic dysfunction and rehabilitation by taking numerous continuing education courses. He has received his board certification in orthopedics, from the American Physical Therapy Association’s Board of PT Specialties. He is also certified as a functional manual therapist by the Institute of Physical Art in Steamboat Springs, Colo. He and Function First Physical Therapy, P.C., are members of the Hospital for Special Surgeries’ Rehabilitation Network. He attends the weekly sports medicine grand rounds to stay abreast of current orthopedic research, both operative and management procedures. JESSIE GOLD, Instructor
Jessie Gold is a dancer, choreographer, and musician in New York City. She has found the structure, elegance and mechanics of the Pilates method to be an inspiring technique for maintaining a healthy body and mind while remaining injury-free. Her studies in Ballet, Contemporary Dance Technique, Alexander Technique, Klein Technique, Kinetic Awareness, Authentic Movement, Yoga and Ideokinesis enhance her approach in teaching the Pilates Method. Gold holds a BA from New York University’s Gallatin School of Individualized Studies with a concentration in dance, fine art, and cultural studies. She received her Pilates certification from Bodytonic Pilates Gymnasium in 2008 where the intensive 500 hour classical program covered Pilates matt and all apparatus training. At Bodytonic, she trained with master Instructors Caitlin Cook and Jennifer DeLuca.
